  • PETA made a strong point about why you can’t leave your dog in a hot car by locking NFL player Tyrann Mathieu in an SUV on a 95 degree day – and he couldn’t even make it ten minutes before he had to get out.

The car is already uncomfortably hot when he gets inside, and within eight minutes the temperature has risen to 120 degrees. It’s painful just to watch Mathieu suffering from the heat – by the end he’s sweating profusely and having trouble breathing.

If the heat is that tough for him, it’s much worse for dogs, who can’t sweat and have no way to cool down or escape. PETA points out that when the car reaches 105 degrees – which happens after only a few minutes – a dog will start dying of heatstroke. They urge people to call 911 immediately if they see a dog in a hot car, because every second counts.
