Spitfire Lands Without Landing Gear
A skilled pilot flying a replica Spitfire had a tense half hour after he realized he couldn’t release his landing gear – but he managed to land and walk away without a scratch.
Before pulling off this dramatic emergency landing at Sibson Airfield in Cambridgeshire, England, the pilot circled for more than 20 minutes to burn off fuel, while fire trucks and an ambulance were called in and skydivers jumping at the airfield were grounded.
Finally the pilot made his descent in strong winds – and managed a basically-perfect landing on the grass and walked away unhurt. And aside from the propeller falling off afterward, the plane remained in one piece. Clearly this guy knew what he was doing.
