White Guy Confronts Racist on Train in Taiwan

A video released just yesterday on YouTube is already taking over Taiwan’s airwaves. In it, Christopher Hall is harassed by a local allegedly because Hall was travelling with his Taiwanese girlfriend. Interspersed through the video, Hall describes his feelings while dealing with the local’s stream of abusive obscenities and explains that he and his girlfriend in no way provoked the attack.

Just as predicted in the video, news stations in Taiwan picked up the video and the local has been identified as Mr. Liao.

Liao was detained at the Da-an police department today and asked to issue an apology. He has allegedly refused although he has stated he regrets his actions. Liao claims the incident started when Hall accidentally bumped into him and didn’t apologize. Hall vehemently denies the accusation, and claims Liao targeted them solely because of their relationship.

According to reports from Taiwan, Liao’s employer ISS plans on punishing him for his actions on the train. The company has received a torrent of hate-mail since it was discovered Liao was employed there.
