Casey Neistat Snowboards Through Manhattan
New York City got slammed with 27 inches of snow over the weekend, essentially shutting down the city and forcing the NYPD to implement a travel ban.
That situation sounded like heaven to viral YouTuber Casey Neistat, who risked getting arrested to pull off one of his best snowboarding stunts yet.
On Saturday, he and some buddies spent the day snowboarding around the streets of Manhattan, being towed behind a Jeep and filming the whole thing with drones and selfie-sticks. The result is an epic video set to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York,” featuring them cruising through Times Square waving an American flag and doing jumps off of parked, snow-covered cars, while bundled-up pedestrians cheered and high-fived them as they went past.
This story has blown up worldwide, including this coverage from the New York Times:
“When you’re out West you’ve got trees to avoid and you’ve got rocks to jump off of. Here, you have snow plows to avoid and snowbanks and sports cars to jump off of. The consequences of falling might be a little higher in New York City.”
They did get pulled over by police for snowboarding after the travel ban was in place – but even the NYPD had to admit this was pretty awesome. “Someone complained about you,” the officer said, “so we’re just going to act like we’re talking to you.”
“You guys are awesome!” Neistat replied.
This video was posted yesterday and already has nearly 6 million views, so yeah, this project really paid off.
