“Angela” Technique Helps Women Stay Safe in Bars on Dates
Bars, and the world in general, can unsafe, in particular if you’re being harassed, or are on a date with someone who turned out to be more dangerous than you thought, and as such, the conversation on harassment and date rape has been getting more attention.
Now, an innovative new idea has emerged in bars that help promote safety for women: in women’s bathrooms, they have begun posting signs that inform women of a code word that may help them get out of danger.
The posters say that if one asks for “Angela” or orders an “Angel shot”, the bartender will be alerted to a possible danger and discreetly act on the woman’s behalf, including but not limited to walking them to their vehicles, calling a car service, or alerting the police. Twitter users have praised the idea as ingenious, and a right step towards promoting safety and prevention of sexual violence.
This idea is pretty incredible how such a simple idea has the potential to do a lot of good. We hope to see this idea spread farther.
