  • Six members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS have reportedly resigned recently because in their view, President Donald Trump “simply does not care” about the HIV epidemic. When James Corden heard this, he took it upon himself to teach the president about the impact of HIV/AIDs by sending him 297 copies of the 1994 Oscar-winning film, “Philadelphia.” The movie, starring Tom Hanks is about a man with AIDS. Until the “Late Late Show” host saw it, he admits that he himself, didn’t fully understand the impact of the disease.

“I was thinking, maybe that’s the problem. Maybe Donald Trump doesn’t care because he’s never seen ‘Philadelphia,’” Corden said. “In fact, I’m almost certain that’s probably what it is.”

The White House rebuffed Corden’s proposal to send one copy of the movie to Trump so he and his staff decided to buy every DVD of it they could find online — 297 copies — and send them to the President’s Florida estate Mar-a-Lago.

“We hope that if Trump watches ‘Philadelphia,’ he’ll be understanding two things,” he said, one hope being that Trump realizes Tom Hanks “definitely deserved” the Oscar he got for the role, but his second hop is much more important.

“We hope that he’ll realize that HIV and AIDS is something that you or any president of the U.S. or any world leader for that matter can never afford to ignore.”

Standing ovation for you, Mr. Corden, thank you for fighting for something that matters. What do you guy’s think of Corden taking matters into his own hands? Let us know in the comments or at @whatstrending on Twitter!
