  • Bruce Springsteen received a unique request during his set at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ Wednesday night. Amidst the crowd, Springsteen spotted a fan’s poster that read “Play 1 for Levon,” in reference to legendary drummer, Levon Helm, who passed away last month at the age of 71 after fighting an ongoing battle with cancer.

Springsteen took the sign to heart and, during his encore, he and the E Street Band treated their audience to a rendition of The Band’s “The Weight.” The impromptu tribute easily became the highlight of the night.

The Boss added: “One of the greatest voices in country rockabilly and rock and roll. Just staggering — while playing the drums!…both his voice and his drumming was so incredibly personal. It had a feeling on the drums that just comes out of a certain place in the past and you can’t replicate it.”
