On Tuesday, July 7th, Hollywood star Johnny Depp appeared in a London court and claimed that he had never committed domestic violence against his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp is currently suing the publisher of The Sun for calling him a “wife beater” in a 2018 article. According to Depp, the article titled “Gone Potty – How can JK Rowling be genuinely happy casting wife beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film” had seriously damaged his career and casting.
Depp’s lawyer indicated that the publisher had made “defamatory allegations of the utmost seriousness” against the actor. On the other hand, The Sun claimed that the description of “wife beater” was “entirely accurate,” citing Heard’s words as evidence. Depp and Heard arrived at London High Court his morning, with face coverings to prevent COVID-19. Depp’s former partners Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder will serve as witnesses to prove Depp’s innocence. Both Paradis and Ryder had previously submitted statements to support Depp.
Depp and Heard met in the comedy The Rum Diary and decided to get married in 2015. However, the marriage didn’t last long. The actor and the actress divorced in 2015. Soon after their divorce, the stars accused one another of domestic violence. According to Heard, she had recorded the conversations between herself and Depp. Heard said, due to Depp’s usage of drugs, Depp would forget everything he had done the next day. In addition, Heard accused Depp of having anger problems and depicted him as a “monster”. Depp responded, “I was angry, but that doesn’t mean I have an anger problem.” The recording was also done without Depp’s consent.
Depp said Heard was actually the violent one in the relationship. In Australia in 2015, Heard hurled a Vodka bottle at Depp; Depp provided a graphic picture of his fingers as evidence. Depp recollected, “Amber severed my fingers with the second of two thrown vodka bottles at me in the early afternoon of Sunday March 8th. Amber claims this was on the second day of a ‘three-day hostage situation’. These sick claims are completely untrue.” After throwing the Vodka bottle, Heard also put a lit cigarette on Depp’s cheek. Regarding the same incidence, Heard claimed that Johnny Depp hurt his own fingers when he smashed a telephone against a wall.
Other than the Vodka bottle throwing, Depp also cited another incidence on the private jet. According to Depp, Heard became “verbally aggressive” and called him a “pussy” and “spineless” as he tried to de-escalate the problem between them. Then, Heard punched Depp in the face, until he sought temporary shelter in the bathroom. “I pushed her away from me, onto the bed. I then grabbed a pillow and locked myself in the bathroom, where I slept for the duration of the flight”, Depp recalled.

The internet was shocked after learning about their complicated relationship. While some agree with Heard, many people support Depp. One said, “this is terrifying.”
