Twitter users are dragging Cardi B left and right for tweeting about debating whether or not to buy a purse.

During the coronavirus, millions of families and individuals have struggled financially due to loss of employment or modified work hours. As a result, countless people thought that Cardi B tweeting about possibly purchasing an expensive purse during a global pandemic was quite tone-deaf.

“Should I spend 88K for this damn purse ? Omggg it’s tempting,” the “WAP” rapper tweeted.

Some argued that Cardi B should be donating that money to a charity or several non-profit organizations instead. However, others defended the rapper. Many explained that despite the circumstances, she should be able to spend her money on whatever she wants.

“It’s idiotic to demand more from millionaires than we do billionaires,” a user, @MagicEyez, tweeted. “Go bother @JeffBezos who makes more than all of your favorite athletes, musicians, actors combined. Her money belongs to her and we should be happy that she does anything at all. She doesn’t have to.”

There are plenty of celebrities and public figures with more money than Cardi B. And while it’s unclear who has donated money and who has yet to give back when it comes to every single wealthy individual in the public eye, this is not the first time that Cardi B has been called tone-deaf or even greedy.

And within a short period of time, it became more about the purse itself instead of the money it was worth. Once the purse was eventually shown on social media, countless Twitter users claimed that it “wasn’t worth the money” or that the purse was “ugly” instead of continuing to talk about charities and donating. It seemed that internet trolls just needed something to complain about after there was somewhat of a lack of controversial content online.

Fortunately, Cardi B came with receipts to defend herself. She proved that she donated $1 million to coronavirus relief by sharing a screenshot of her donation on Twitter. She also donated 20,000 meal supplements to medical staff in New York. In addition to these donations, Cardi also gave over $1 million to fans via CashApp a couple of months ago.

It’s public knowledge that the 28-year-old is well-educated when it comes to the current pandemic and has been using her platform to promote true information since the very beginning.

In a video posted to her official Instagram account back in March, Cardi explained: “But if a celebrity is saying, ‘Hey, listen. I don’t have no symptoms. I’m feeling good. I’m feeling healthy. I don’t feel like nothing, but I went and got tested and I’m positive for the coronavirus,’ that cause confusion.”

When testing was scarce and employment was up in the air, she said: “the general public, people that work regular jobs, people that get regular paychecks, the middle class, the poor … they’re not getting treated like celebrities.”

She also criticized Donald Trump for suggesting people shouldn’t get tested unless it’s under specific circumstances in the past. This particular video has been viewed over 15 million times.

The conversation didn’t end for the rapper there. She then challenged her fans to share proof on social media of their donations and vowed to match them. Within minutes, she was tweeting screenshots of text messages sent to her team. The texts revealed Cardi B asking different individuals from her team to match donations that she saw on Twitter.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper is nearly immune to receiving criticism from strangers on the internet. In fact, by the end of the night, she showed how much internet trolls did not impact her mood negatively with one final question.

“Sooooooo……do ya want me to show ya the purse ?” She tweeted.
