Chrissy’s Heartfelt Letter

Chrissy Teigen published an essay explaining the heartbreaking experience of losing her child, Jack. She captioned the post on Instagram, “I  didn’t know how to come back to real life so I wrote this piece for Medium with hopes that I can somehow move on but as soon as I posted it, tears flew out because it felt so….final. I don’t want to ever not remember Jack.”

In the essay she posted to Medium, she explains in detail the complications of her pregnancy. Teigen was diagnosed with “partial placenta abruption.” She has been very open on social media about the things she experienced during the pregnancy. One detail she explained was heavy bleeding. She spent time in the hospital for heavy bleeding, more than the usual bleeding, and came to the horrible realization that her baby wasn’t going to make it.

Anyone writing such a personal essay would get emotional after experiencing that. “Even as I write this now, I can feel the pain all over again,” she wrote. “Oxygen was placed over my nose and mouth, and that was the first picture you saw. Utter and complete sadness.”When she shared their loss on Instagram, she posted raw pictures of their sadness.

She went on to explain her sadness that she feels she made the world is feeling with her. “I feel bad our grief was so public because I made the joy so public. I was excited to share our news with the world. Stories leading up to this had been chronicled for all. It’s hard to look at them now. I was so positive it would be okay. I feel bad that I made you all feel bad. I always will.”

Teigen finishes by stating that the essay was a necessary step for her to move on but she will never forget her son, Jack. “I knew for me I needed to say something before I could move on from this and return back to life, so I truly thank you for allowing me to do so. Jack will always be loved, explained to our kids as existing in the wind and trees and the butterflies they see,” she said.

That he just had to do it.”

“He hated it. I could tell. It didn’t make sense to him at the time. But I knew I needed to know of this moment forever, the same way I needed to remember us kissing at the end of the aisle, the same way I needed to remember our tears of joy after [son Miles Theodore, 2, and daughter Luna Simone, 4½]. And I absolutely knew I needed to share this story.”
