A server at a Texas steakhouse was shocked to find no tip and the message “We don’t tip terrorist.” written on the receipt.

Khalil Cavil shared a photo of the receipt on Facebook, where he wrote in part: “I share this because I want people to understand that this racism, and this hatred still exists. Although this is nothing new, it is still something that will test your faith.”

The diners, who spent $108 at the restaurant on a Saturday night, circled Khalil’s name on the receipt, under the words “We don’t tip terrorist.”

Khalil told the local ABC affiliate that he doesn’t even have a middle Eastern background and was named after a family friend, but he was still shocked by the receipt and said it made him feel sick to his stomach. He also said that his Christian faith is helping him forgive the people who left him the note.

Saltgrass Steakhouse has locations in 7 states across the midwest and south, and they acted quickly on behalf of their employee. Their COO Terry Turney said: “We stand by and support our employee. Racism of any form is unacceptable and we have banned this customer from returning to our establishment.”

Boom! Sorry, buddy. You’re not getting any more delicious Range Rattlers. Want yourself a medium rare steak and fries? Too bad. Texas cheesesteak sandwich? Make it yourself. Craving to wash it all down with a Crown Royal Apple Pie? Uhhh…how about a Royal Apple Goodbye!

Neither Cavil or the restaurant chain have identified the diners, so they get to avoid what would have been a well-earned public shaming. The Saltgrass Twitter account has been thanking those who agree with their ban of the offending customer. Parker Valdez said: “Congrats to @SaltgrassSteak for getting it right! Not how the rest of us living in Midland/Odessa think. Horrible for a patron to think he was a terrorist and pointed out his name, just awful!”, and @nutcrackermom wrote: “Way to go @SaltgrassSteak! Banning #NoTipTerrorist was the right thing to do, and stand against racism.”

Racist receipts? Unfortunately, they’re nothing new.

In January at a restaurant in Virginia, server Kelly Carter returned to her table to find a receipt that read “Great service. Don’t tip black people.” In 2017, the owner of an Italian restaurant in San Antonio was shocked to find a note on a receipt that read: “The food was tasty, the service was attentive. However, the owner is ‘Mexican’. We will not return. ‘America First.”, and server Sadie Elledge didn’t receive a tip where she works at a Virginia restaurant in 2016, after a customer left a note that read “We only tip citizens.”

Fortunately, after all of these cases, the local community has come out in droves to show support.
