  • It’s not like The Simpsons ever went away, but they certainly have been given a modern internet friendly breath of air with the Simpsons Shitpost memes — memes remixing The Simpsons in a variety of odd and surreal ways. The meme seems to be currently reaching its apex with the Steamed Hams meme. Steamed Hams originated as one of the many segments in the excellent 1996 episode “22 Short Films About Springfield” and it revolved around Principal Skinner trying to trick his boss, Superintendent Chalmers, into thinking the house they’re in is currently not on fire. It’s an all time classic. Check it out below.

  • Since then, the clip has been remixed, recut and changed up in a variety of incredible ways. In one of them, a man plays along with the rhythm of the dialogue on the keyboard, a cut where they reuse the word from the first time the character in the clip said it, and one that’s been translated into Chinese and back using Google translate. Check them out — and more — below.

  • Even the original co-writer of the Steamed Hams scene — Bill Oakley (who — with writing partner Josh Weinstein ran the show in seasons 7 and 8 from which this scene is taken) got in on the fun — changing his Twitter background to the words Steamed Hams built up as the Hollywood sign and posting the original draft of the Steamed Hams scene. The script is more or less unchanged, but it’s exciting to a see a scene this good, that has to captured the internet’s imagination in a raw form.
