Japanese Astronaut Apologizes for Saying He Grew Nine Centimeters in Space

Look, we all get embarrassed. Sometimes it’s because we mess up on a date, sometimes it’s because you screwed up an interview, and sometimes it’s because you went to space and only grew 2 centimeters instead of 9. That is what one astronaut — Norishige Kanai who lived on the international space station — tweeted out in Japanese, saying he grew a ridiculous nine centimeters (or 3.5 inches)!

The original tweet actually also said he’s worried about the height change but guess what folks. It was a mistake! He only grew 2 centimeters. He can still fit into the spacecraft, and thus ends the saga of the Japanese astronaut who thought he grew nine centimeters. All of it — the kind of story a grade schooler would tell if he went to space. “I grew taller. Honest!”
