The White House is still struggling to understand why Donald Trump called back Howard Stern sidekick and prankster Stuttering John from Air Force One.

Guys, does it make you worried that on top of every other freaking thing we’re going through with the president, he is absurdly easy to trick? I mean… I don’t want our enemies to know this! On the podcast of long standing Howard Stern sidekick Stuttering John (real name John Melendez on The Stuttering John Podcast), seemingly as a goofy stunt to promote his book, John Melendez calls in to the White House switchboard trying to get ahold of the president, and things are too easy from the start. You can hear the podcast here. It is the June 28th episode, and the fun begins at the 32 minute mark.
The switchboard begins by rejecting Stuttering John, but when John calls back in pretending to be New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez’s assistant and gets in IMMEDIATELY. With a heavy English accent that sounds like a character from, as John describes it, This Is Spinal Tap, more than anything else. The White House then calls back only to identify that the area code is in Los Angeles, to which John just replies that they’re on vacation which somehow works.
Incredibly enough, in the end, Donald Trump actually calls back believing that its actually Bob Menendez calling.
Trump begins the call by congratulating him on getting off the fraud charges the real senator just beat (because, as John points out, he wants to beat those charges too!). Incredibly enough considering what the Stern show is, the call with the president is… shockingly prank free (aside from a Baba Booey in the end). John asks Trump to have a plan to reunite the kids of immigrants with their parents and to pick a more moderate Supreme Court justice. Trump mentions he’ll choose someone in the next few weeks (which, given the attempt to hold Mitch McConnell accountable for his blocking Barack Obama from nominating Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, is in fact news that he’ll choose anyone rather than– well I guess we knew he was going to be a dick about it).

Stuttering John keeps talking about how Donald Trump is his friend though which, after the prank he himself put him through, I don’t know if I would brag about that quite so loudly. Boy oh boy.
Folks– the president simply shouldn’t be so easy to trick.
