Here’s Why Cole & Sav FAKED A FIRE EVACUATION For Their Vlog!

YouTube vloggers Cole & Sav are being accused of pretending that they were evacuated from their home by a wildfire. We’ll dig into this and let you know what’s really going on.

Cole and Savannah LaBrant are two very popular YouTube vloggers, who detail their lives in Orange County, California, with Savannah’s 5-year-old daughter Everleigh. They’ve got nearly 7 million subscribers on YouTube and millions of followers on their personal Instagram accounts. But a recent vlog raised eyebrows when it appeared to suggest that the family was being evacuated from their house due to a wildfire.

The LaBrants live in Ladera Ranch, California, and sure enough about 15 miles to the north is the location of the Holy Fire, which has scorched over 22,000 acres since August 6, and as the wildfire spread, 20,000 people were ordered to evacuate from areas in Orange and Riverside Counties.

But Ladera Ranch is not near any of those areas, and according to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group, no evacuation order had ever been given for Ladera Ranch or surrounding cities.

Fox 11 News talked to neighbors who thought the LaBrants were trying to exploit the fire for their own benefit. The original thumbnail for the video, which depicted the LaBrants looking frightened with the fire in the background, upset people as well.

That thumbnail has since been changed to less scary still from the video without fire imagery. The title was also changed from “A GIANT FIRE MAKES US EVACUATE OUR HOUSE” to “WE LEFT OUR HOUSE BECAUSE OF FIRES IN CALIFORNIA”

The rest of the Cole & Sav vlog is about their trip to San Francisco, which was apparently planned ahead of time to celebrate the two-year anniversary of Cole asking Savannah to be his girlfriend.

So, what it looks like from our perspective is that the family was heading to San Francisco anyway and thought they could use the nearby fire as a way to frame the video and probably get some additional clicks. Neither the LaBrant’s nor any representatives responded to Fox 11 or Buzzfeed’s request for comment.

We reached out as well asking for their side of the story. No response.

But fans of the LaBrants have been coming to their defense. Holly McWatters wrote: “Savannah is pregnant so they left because they didn’t want her breathing in the smoke and damaging the baby!”

And that’s fair. Savannah is five months pregnant and wildfires can create bad air quality conditions.

But air quality is never mentioned as a concern during the vlog, though references to evacuation and their house possibly burning down, is brought up repeatedly. So the air quality argument, while valid, does appear to be an effort by Cole & Sav fans to backtrack a little bit on the couple’s mistake.
