This Card Trick isn’t Magic, it’s Mathemagic!

The good folks at Numberphile have built a million-subscriber-strong YouTube channel by providing simple and fascinating videos about mathematics. But in their latest, they add a little magic to the mix. The result? Mathemagic!

The secret is the “perfect shuffle.” By ensuring that every card is evenly spaced in the shuffle, some simple math will allow you to predict exactly where any given card is in a deck. Of course, this relies on some pretty fast arithmetic, which was never our strong suit. But then, we can’t do actual magic either. So we’re doubly impressed!
