  • If you’ve seen the original video for Cee-Lo Green’s “Fuck You,” you’re aware of the potential typography has to take the lyrics from a song and turn it into a tapestry that actually enhances the music. By now, lyric videos are commonplace and music studios often release them prior to the official music video, a move that helps build anticipation for the final product. And for every beautifully-constructed lyric video there are thousands of fan-made versions with terrible fonts and Microsoft Word production levels. But where did the lyric video begin? Tom Scott put together this interesting history, tracing its origins all the way back to Bob Dylan and Prince.
