Lily Allen tackles the pressure to fit a certain mold in the entertainment world with this new satirical pop song, “Hard Out Here,” in which the British artist responds to music videos that degrade women by poking fun at herself.
Using lyrics like, “You should probably lose some weight ‘cuz we can’t see your bones. You should probably fix your face or you’ll end up alone,” she represents the women in show business trying to break through the misogynistic glass ceiling they’re placed under.
Better yet, she makes hilarious references to recent music videos that objectify women.
Here, she’s parading around a bunch of balloons that read, “Lily Allen has a baggy pussy.”
And then, of course, there’s “Blurred Lines” version which reads, “Robin Thicke has a big D.”
At one point in “Hard Out Here,” a girl licks a Beats Pill, which we’ve also seen in “Blurred Lines” and Miley’s “We Can’t Stop.” Coincidence? Doesn’t look like it!
It is good to see someone take an issue as controversial as this one and have some fun with it, hopefully without offending anyone.
Way to go, Lily!
