Ford’s New Cadillac Parody About Dirt Skewers Rich People
Cadillac’s commercial talking about how hard Americans work has stirred up a lot of controversy. Now, Ford is capitalizing on that by creating a spot on parody.
Many people thought that Cadillac’s original “Poolside” commercial played on American stereotypes and only showed “rich America.” Ford’s “Upside” commercial takes more of an “every-man” approach showing that most Americans don’t stand by their pool looking at the “things” they’ve gotten with their hard work. Ford called in Pashon Murray, the founder of Detroit Dirt to make the parody have a strong environmental message that still features a bit of American pride. Murray even says at the end “Helping a city grow good, green, healthy vegetables, that’s the upside of giving a damn.” Ford’s spot focuses more on how we work hard to make the world a better place, not just to make our own lives better.
