The actions of ICE have never been popular with the nation as a whole. They’ve been seen as cruel and dehumanizing to immigrants and Latinx people, but now its policies have become even more unpopular following the discovery that ICE has been separating parents — some as young as a few months old — from their parents and placing them in detention centers. The centers have been called and compared to concentration camps.

One of the masterminds of this has been ICE’s Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who has been brazen with lying to the American people about separating children from their parents, and whose decisions have created this monstrous “hell world” for immigrants coming to America.

When Homeland Security head Kirstjen Nielsen went to, quite brazenly, a Mexican restaurant in DC (MXDC), a DSA member heard about it and showed up with protesters, telling her that if the children she has torn from her families can’t have a decent and safe meal, then neither can she… as it should be. The video ends with Kristjen Nielsen entering her limousine and leaving, and one wonders if this is what her life will be like until some consequence is met for those who have decided to treat human beings like so much cattle.

It’s a nice video that absolutely makes us feel a little better and is an example of the kind of protest we can expect to see in the coming days as the president and those who work for him (such as Nielsen) continue their attitudes and policies towards immigrants. Only today, as the president attempted to take credit for ending a policy of child separation that he himself enacted in the first place, he created an executive order to keep families detained indefinitely.

This fight is not over, and we will need more action in the future. If you want to do something about the indefinite detainment policy, make sure to contact your congressman, whom you can find here.
