In a recent interview with radio personality Angela Yee, singer August Alsina opened up about his private life, including his relationships. August stated that he had dated actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who is married to Will Smith. He claimed “I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership … he gave me his blessing.”
Alsina went on to say, “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be okay with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”
The Smiths have long caused confusion with their “life partnership,” with many wondering if this means that they are in an open relationship. The couple’s relationship made headlines when in a 2013 HuffPost interview with Marc Lamont Hill, Pinkett Smith said “I’ve always told Will, “You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay. Because at the end of the day, Will is his own man.”
She later clarified this via Facebook saying, “Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want, because we TRUST each other to do so. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship…this means we have a GROWN one.”
Alisna is a 27-year-old musician and is known for his songs such as No Love, Kissin’ on My Tattoos This Thing Called Life and Like You Love Me. This is not the first time that Alsina and Jada have sparked dating rumors. Alina’s song Nunya, which talks about his relationship, prompted speculation that it was about Pinkett Smith.
He was allegedly introduced to Pinkett Smith in 2015 by her son, Jaden. According to August, the two became close, vacationing with the family in Hawaii in 2016 and even attending the BET Awards together in 2017.
Given that August’s claim has since been trending, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Jada has since taken to social media to address them. Reps for Pinkett Smith say Alsina’s claims are “absolutely not true,”but the conversation doesn’t end there. Pinkett Smith took to Twitter to say, “There’s some healing that needs to happen…so I’m bringing myself to The Red Table.”
