John Mayer is celebrating two years sober! While on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” he discussed the process. The 41-year-old singer said, “You know, I think I’m done. I just finished. I completed my course in drinking.”
He says that he was lucky. “It didn’t go all that deep.”
But what got him to decide to quit? In an interview with Complex, he said it was a conversation with Drake! They had a conversation after Mayer finished doing a show with Dave Chappelle.
“He reminded me — well, he didn’t really remind me, he told me for the first time ‘cause I was pretty far gone…I put my arms out in front of him, and I said, ‘Remember me, and remember this,’ and just walked out.”
After that party, Mayer said he had a six-day hangover. That’s when he had a long conversation with himself.

“‘OK, John, what percentage of your potential would you like to have?’” he asked himself.
“‘Because if you say you’d like 60, and you’d like to spend the other 40 having fun, that’s fine. But what percentage of what is available to you would you like to make happen? There’s no wrong answer. What is it? I went, ‘100.’”
After that, he sought out help and got sober. And now he’s two years in and feeling healthier than ever.
