Tasia Thomas may be new to YouTube, but she’s already logged one viral hit with her 2012 music medley, featuring songs from artists like Katy Perry, Psy, Jessie J, Whitney Houston and more. Hear her perform a stirring rendition of her medley live on the What’s Trending stage.
After she sits down to chat with Shira Lazar about embarking on a YouTube career and her plans for the future, we hit her with some YouTube hits from 2012 that weren’t featuring in the medley, including “One Pound Fish,” “It’s Thanksgiving” and Yasha Swag’s “Go Go Go” – and she shows us her innovative takes on them.
Tasia says that the craziest thing about all of this attention is the love she’s received from overseas. “Just to meet all of these people from all over the world, I’m overwhelmed and just in shock that they even got to see it.”
The artist herself grew up in Oahu and was named the fastest girl in the state when she was running track, until a medical issue took her out of the game. “Singing was always very much a part of me,” she says. “I grew up in a Baptist church, singing.”
So, she turned to YouTube to get her voice out there, saying, “It’s just the new way to go with media and trying to make some noise.” But she’s not signed to a label just yet. “Now that I have these amazing people to call my fans, it would be only right that we find the right home.”
