Christopher Nolan!? Brilliant screenwriting!? A fight against fascism that feels strangely evocative given today’s current events!? And One Direction hunks!? Yes sir, Dunkirk, which released its first trailer has it all and Harry Styles to boot!
The film is a recounting of The Battle of Dunkirk— a battle in WWII that resulted in the allied forces being cornered and choosing to retreat rather than lose— which allowed the allies to grow stronger rather than be decimated than and ultimately defeat the Nazis. It’s a moody film, and perfect for Chris Nolan as Dunkirk looks like it is ready to join The Dark Knight, Interstellar and Inception in the director’s incredible ouevre.
The film stars not only Harry Styles, but also Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh which promises us high flying drama and — if there is any justice — The Scarecrow from Batman. I want to see The Scarecrow use his fear gas on the Nazis.
