NASA Discovers The Godzilla Of Earths
The Kepler space telescope was just looking at the stars like it always does, when it saw something nobody thought could possibly exist — “The Godzilla of Earths.”
This “Super Earth,” known as Kepler-10C, has 17 times the space weight of normal Earth and formed when there were few elements in the universe. The planet has such a strong gravitational pull that it should be a gas giant like Jupiter. But it is rock based much like Earth, that is if Earth had average temperature of 413° Fahrenheit.
At 560 light years away, the “Super Earth” stands in a class of its own and is making scientists rethink everything they thought about planet formation.
“Finding Kepler-10c tells us that rocky planets could form much earlier than we thought. And if you can make rocks, you can make life,” Dimitar Sasselov, Director of the Harvard Origins of Life Initiative, said in a press release for the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
