Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino and his brother Marc are in court in Newark, New Jersey, on files of failure to properly pay taxes on $8.9 million in earnings. The charges include one count each of conspiracy to defraud the US Government regarding income earned from promotional activities between 2010 and 2012. As well, each was charged with multiple counts of filing false tax returns.
According to ABC News, the IRS is further claiming that the brothers purchased personal clothes and cars while were then identified as “business expenses,” while also funneling money from their business into personal accounts.
If convicted, the Sorrentinos could face up to 5 years in federal prison. A spokesman for Marc Sorrentino has referred to the government’s case as “fiction.”
