  • The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Neil Patrick Harris, of “Dr. Horrible” and “Doogie Howser” fame, will host the 2015 edition of the Academy Awards ceremony.

To commemorate the occasion, the Academy posted a video with NPH to their Facebook page. It opens with him on the phone accepting the hosting job, then crossing “Host the Oscars” – the very last entry – off of his extensive Bucket List.

Other items already crossed-off on the list include: Get Married, Become an Imagineer, Star in Broadway Show (possibly a reference to his acclaimed, recent Tony-winning run as Hedwig in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”) and, of course, Sleep in Cinderella’s Castle.

Harris has previously hosted both the Tony Awards and the 2013 Emmys, making him arguably the most popular living award show host. (This also means he’s only one major award show away from earning the rare hosting EGOT. Come on, Grammy Awards! Make this happen!)

Last year, the Oscars were hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, who made headlines by ordering pizzas for the celebrities in attendance and taking Twitter’s all-time most-shared selfie. She declined to return for another run as host.
