Yesterday, 15 police officers were injured and over 200 individuals arrested as west Baltimore erupted in protest and violence after the funeral of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man who died in police custody under suspicious circumstances earlier this month.
The governor of Maryland has declared a state of emergency and the National Guard has now arrived, along with thousands of police officers from outside Baltimore to attempt to keep the peace.
It would, of course, be impossible to adequately summarize the happenings in Baltimore in under a dozen videos and tweets, but we’ll attempt to below to show a cross-section of the feelings in the city, with perspectives from police and protesters, the violent and the non-violent.
