  • We all love a good pair of skinny jeans, but when they’re so tight that they make your legs stop working, things have gone a bit too far.

A 35-year-old Australian woman ended up in the hospital (and created an instant viral story) after she wore her super-skinny-jeans while helping a family member move, which already sounds incredibly uncomfortable — but then as she was walking home, her legs went numb and she fell to the ground. She was lying there for several hours before someone found her.

Apparently her legs were so swollen that hospital staff had to cut off her jeans. They later found out the jeans were so tight they had damaged the muscles and nerves in her legs, and could have led to permanent damage and even amputation. Fortunately, after four days in the hospital, she recovered and was able to walk home.

We should probably warn all our supermodel and hipster friends about the dangers of wearing tight jeans, at least when they’re doing lots of bending and lifting, and suggest some looser styles. Let’s not bring back the boot cut, though, because what were we thinking.
