Peas in Guacamole Turns Into Bizarre Political Fight on Twitter

What a time to be alive. The New York Times has unintentionally caused a political firestorm over guacamole, of all things, when they tweeted out this article:

“Adding fresh English peas to what is an otherwise fairly traditional guacamole is one of those radical moves that is also completely obvious after you taste it. The peas add intense sweetness and a chunky texture to the dip, making it more substantial on the chip.”

The fuck is wrong with you, New York Times.

It started out as a silly joke and a chance to make fun of New Yorkers:

Now it’s an actual hot-button issue for America’s politicians – and you may be surprised to learn that Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush already had a stance on the topic.“We don’t do peas in guacamole, no, man,” he told Jimmy Fallon last month. “I’m trying to be nice here, but… This will not stand.”

Now, because Republicans will get on the right side of a Twitter meme if it kills them, Jeb has doubled down…

… but President Obama isn’t letting it get away from him, responding to the issue during his #AskPOTUS Q&A about healthcare today.
