What started out as a silly Snapchat to a friend for Paige McVeigh turned into a shocking moment capturing the Akron, Ohio plane crash.

A small plane crashed into an apartment complex in Akron yesterday, killing nine passengers. McVeigh happened to be using Snapchat in a nearby building and captured the flash and noise of the explosion, along with her horrified reaction.

The video has since gone viral and reporters have flooded McVeigh with questions about the crash.

Awkwardly for her, people have also noticed that she said “you’re so gay” to her friend seconds earlier. When someone pointed it out on Twitter, she responded, “I was sending it to a friend I’m not a homophobe I was just saying it.”

She told local news channel WKYC that “it was horrible to go through [the crash] alone because nobody was home.”

Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. Thank goodness no one was hurt on the ground.
