Facebook had to apologize to a man named Phuc Dat Bich for shutting down his account several times because they thought he was being sexist, which is actually kind of racist.

You’re too much for me sometimes, internet.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald (which is abbreviated SMH, which I always read as “shaking my head,” which is so appropriate in this case), the Australian man with Vietnamese heritage was forced to post a picture of his passport to prove that is in fact his real name – and he had a strongly-worded rant to go with it.

I find it highly irritating the fact that nobody seems to believe me when I say that my full legal name is how you see it. I’ve been accused of using a false and misleading name of which I find very offensive. Is it because I’m Asian? Is it?

Having my fb shut down multiple times and forced to change my name to my “real” name, so just to put it out there. My name.

    Yours sincerely, Phuc Dat Bich

If you were wondering, the actual Vietnamese pronunciation sounds more like “Phoo Da Bic.” Not that this helps the guy much on the internet.

  • This all actually happened in January, but it went viral this week and is now getting international press attention. It’s also been one of the top trends on Twitter all day.
