  • Being fame obsessed has been the downfall for many people. Time and time again, we’ve seen celebrities who crave the spotlight do everything they can to make it, often turning to drugs and ultimately ruining their lives just to make headlines. This week a couple from Minnesota, Pedro Ruiz III and Monalisa Perez, took their dream to be YouTube stars too far.

“Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever,” Perez tweeted at 5 p.m. Monday, “HIS idea not MINE.”

  • And dangerous it was. Using a .50-caliber pistol which is considered “one of the most powerful semiautomatic handguns in the world,” Perez followed her boyfriend’s wishes and shot at him for a video. Why? Because Ruiz believed holding a book between himself and the bullet would stop the bullet from hitting him. It didn’t and now Perez is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter. According to the Washington Post, Ruiz had been trying to convince her to do the stunt for some time in the hopes of getting “more views.”

Ruiz’s aunt, Claudia Ruiz spoke out about the incident saying she told him not to do it even though he claimed he had evidence it would work. In fact, he convinced his girl friend to pull the trigger by showing her a book he tested the theory on, this book had only an entrance hole and no exit.

The couple have a 3-year-old daughter and Perez, who is 19, is pregnant with their first son. If she gets convicted, Perez faces up to 10 years behind bars. What do you guys think of this story? Do you think Perez should be charged? Let us know in the comments or at @whatstrending on Twitter!
