Nicki Minaj Drops Out Of BET Tour Due To Joke About Her On Social Media

Was social media a mistake? I mean, for the man on the street, it’s a wonderful way to quickly dash off a comment about the latest garbage going ons, but even then, it’s Russian Roulette as we make sure we don’t Tweet out the thing that reveal the personal ignorance we’ve had all along, and are then flayed on the coals for not having the social awareness that everyone else got five minutes before you did, more or less. Or they’ve always had it. Either way, Twitter is dangerous for the man on the street, but that goes double if you’re some random brand out there, just trying to pay its bills, with a human being working them who is trying to pay their bills too. Case in point: Nicki Minaj has dropped out of the BET Experience Tour following a Tweet referencing her now publicly buried feud with Nicki Minaj, saying: “Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj is being dragged by her lacefront.”

It must suck to have to both comment on the expanding pool of ever sensitive celebrities, but also have them as employees. And this indeed sucked, as Nicki Minaj has dropped out of the BET Experience in a Tweet, saying: “Young Money will no longer be a part of the BET Experience or award show.” This includes Lil Wayne who founded the Young Money label.

And thus, continuing on the journey where we all wished on a monkey’s paw to get countless endless attention and be able to say “screw you” to the president that resulted in Twitter, BET issued an apology to Nicki Minaj, reminding her of their history together, and hoping that paves over the hurt feelings that were a result of this exchange.

Said BET in response, courtesy of Pitchfork:

BET loves Nicki Minaj. We have supported her from the very beginning of her career and will continue to do so moving forward. Nicki has paved the way for so many performers and has solidified her place as one of the most powerful figures in the music industry. Unfortunately the respect we have for Nicki was violated by this post that should never have been written. The post does not reflect how we feel about Nicki. And further does not reflect our company values.

We deeply apologize for the hurt, disappointment and confusion that this post has caused. We are committed to doing everything we can to address the situation. We are also conducting an internal audit to assure these types of posts are not published again. We have apologized to Nicki and her team. The post has been removed and we have taken additional appropriate action. We understand Nicki’s position and look forward to continuing our dialogue with her. Finally, we apologize to all of her fans. This should have never happened.

The BET Experience is set to play between June 20-22, and the BET Awards are the next day on June 23. Meanwhile you can add “Twitter freelance” to the growing list of figures Nicki Minaj has decided to use her powers to feud with, that includes Travis Scott’s newly born baby and Cardi B.
