  • David Villa ended his international soccer career with Spain with a back-heel, but when it came to holding back tears when substituted out of his country’s win against Australia, it was something he couldn’t handle.

The 32-year-old announced his retirement before the World Cup and is planned to link up with New York FC once the defending World Cup champions fly back from Brazil.

Teammates consoled Villa as he exited the field in the 57th minute of the game. He appeared to be holding it together when he walked off the field, until he burst into tears when he sat down on the bench. Villa was comforted by Diego Costa, while Coach Del Bosque later revealed he was not aware it was Villa’s last international game.
