The Simpsons’ show runner, Al Jean, has promised that one character will be airing for the last time in the season premiere. Speculating fans have slowly been piecing together who the victim is going to be.
“Show runner Al Jean fuelled speculation that Krusty the Clown is the ‘major character’ to be killed off as the cartoon kicks off its 26th series, by revealing the opening episode will be called ‘A Clown in the Dumps,’” reported The Mirror. “Speaking at a Television Critics Association panel event on Sunday, he said his clues as to the identity of the doomed Springfield resident have been ‘obvious.’”
Previous clues have narrowed the pool down to Krusty and two of his associates.
“He said that the character’s voice actor has won an Emmy for his work on the show,” mused The Independent. “So we can’t rule out Krusty’s father Hyman Krustofski (Jackie Mason) or Sideshow Bob (Kelsey Grammer) however, with both actors having won awards for their contributions.”
Despite this, many fans seemed to have resigned themselves to the idea that Krusty would be the one. In response to this, Al Jean was cryptic.
“I didn’t say I was killing Krusty…I didn’t say I wasn’t.”
