The following is an excerpt from ‘The SpongeBob Movie’ hits live-action shores
Nickelodeon just released the trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, which will open next year—and is not to be confused with 2004’s The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. The big change this time around? It looks like SpongeBob’s going to be less animated, and a lot more live-action. (Or at least stop-motion.)
The sequel adds Antonio Banderas as Alameda Jack, a pirate captain intent on recovering the last page to his magical book. SpongeBob, of course, has that page, and when Alameda Jack attacks, he must go ashore to defend Bikini Bottom.

What would you do if you saw a walking, talking, sea sponge, starfish, crab and squid fighting an adult human on the beach? SpongeBob: The Movie brings the sea creatures of SpongeBob’s world into reality, and it is weird.
It’s okay that this movie is weird; SpongeBob the series is weird. So that falls into line with the animated series. Hey, at least it’s not “scientifically accurate” SpongeBob.
It’s certainly weird! But there are excited fans, nonetheless:
