It’s great for the LGBT community to have celebrities of different and/or fluid sexualities as role models, but that doesn’t mean those celebrities always want to talk about their sex lives. Case in point – “Legend” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” star Tom Hardy has been open about this topic before, but this time he just wasn’t having it.

At a press conference for “Legend” at the Toronto International Film Festival, Graeme Coleman from LGBT website Daily Xtra asked Hardy about his “ambiguous” sexual orientation, saying “Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?” (It’s a long video – skip to 28:15 to get to the question.)

To be fair, it’s not a surprising question coming from an LGBT publication when one of the identical twin gangsters Hardy plays in “Legend” was openly bisexual; and a few years ago Hardy himself told Attitude Magazine “of course I have” but “I’m not into men sexually” when they asked if he’d ever had sex with men.

All the same, the question hit Hardy the wrong way, because he bluntly responded, “What on earth are you on about?”

When the embarrassed reporter repeated himself, Hardy said, “I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality. Are you asking me about my sexuality?”

    “Um, sure.”

“Why?” he replied, and then said “Thank you” before Coleman could continue.

A bit harsh, maybe, but also understandable. Discussion of LGBT personalities has improved a lot in recent years, but we still have a ways to go. So to answer the reporter’s question, yeah, it can be difficult or unpleasant for celebrities to talk about this stuff.

Know what Hardy doesn’t have trouble discussing? Those amazing MySpace photographs which he is NOT embarrassed about, those pictures are AWESOME thank you very much.
