MTV’s ‘Siesta Key’ Premiere Party Canceled Due to Death Threats
MTV‘s new reality show, Siesta Key premiered last night and there is already controversy looming.
From the producers of Laguna Beach the new docuseries follows a group of 20-somethings as they navigate issues of love, heartbreak, betrayal, and looming adulthood… all while finding time to party, duh.
Leading up to the premiere, MTV was forced to cancel the show’s premiere party due to death threats.
How could these kids already be getting death threats?
Social media users did some digging, and found major dirt on one of the show’s stars — Alex Kompothecras. Basically, it was discovered that Alex was friends with one or more of the individuals involved in a viral video that shows a sharked being dragged through the water behind a boat.
The men were accused of animal abuse.
Due to the disturbing video, both Alex and his father Dr. Gary Kompothecras received death threats prior to the party.
This video of the shark is not the only thing social media users have found.
Is it okay for MTV to continue to air a show that condones animal cruelty? The public certainly doesn’t think so. Just check out the #BoycottSiestaKey hashtag on Twitter.
It’s truly unfortunate that the show is receiving this much backlash early on. A lot of us were just hoping we’d get a little taste of Laguna Beach / The Hills again.
But then again, no one will ever top the iconic Lauren Conrad.
