  • Animator Glen Keane is a certifiable modern Disney legend. Even if you don’t know who he is, you’ve seen his animated work — from Tarzan to The Beast from Beauty and the Beast to Pocahantas to — what is understadably his favorite character, Ariel from The Little Mermaid. Glen Keane recently worked with NBA player Kobe Bryant to create “Dear Basketball” — an animated short generating quite a bit of Oscar Buzz, and the duo recently went on James Corden to promote it and give us a little treat. Glen Keane put on virtual reality glasses and proceeded to draw Ariel in 3D virtual reality to the tune of “Part of Your World,” live on air. And the results? They’re shockingly emotional.

We see Glen Keane draw Ariel 28 years after “The Little Mermaid” first hit theater without missing a beat. You can see Glen Keane’s familiar style in action — Ariel’s large Disney eyes, her familiar red hair, and those impossibly thin wrists that only Disney heroines have (good job, thin wrist friend). And then, after drawing the bubbles around her, he walks into his own picture and the results are mesmerizing.
