  • Response to the announcement was mixed, but most fans of college football (and good music) were excited to have Kendrick Lamar perform — considering the success of his most recent album, DAMN.

Then, people got worried. Kendrick Lamar would be the halftime performer at a game Donald Trump was set to attend. Would there be tension? Lamar, after all, has been known to be outspoken on issues of social justice…

  • Cut to Monday, January 8 — turns out Kendrick Lamar and Donald Trump were not at the same venue. While Trump watched Alabama and Georgia battle it out inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Kendrick Lamar performed just outside the venue at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park. Though Lamar’s performance was projected onto the big screens inside the stadium, President Trump didn’t see any of it. He left early.

  • So, for those expecting a Kendrick Lamar vs. Donald Trump showdown… I’m sorry. It never happened.

Back to Lamar’s performance — he did not disappoint. The Grammy Award-winning rapper performed a medley of his tops hits from DAMN., including — HUMBLE., DNA., and ELEMENT. He then concluded his performance with All The Stars — his new single featuring SZA.

Now, don’t get me wrong — I think it’s awesome Kendrick Lamar was the first halftime performer for the National Championship, but I have one question. Why didn’t he perform inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium? He should have been center stage, and Twitter agrees.

  • Alabama ultimately went on to win their 17th national championship, 26-23, in overtime against Georgia. Roll Tide!
