Shape of Water, Get Out, Lady Bird and Mudbound All Make 2018 Oscar Nominations Incredible

Huh! Looks like movies are back in a big way, aren’t they?! Out of the way golden age of television, here come movies.

The Oscar nominations are in and they are dazzling. Leading the charge is the incredible “The Shape of Water” by Guillermo Del Toro with 13 nominations, including (of course) — Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Lead Actress for Sally Hawkins, Best Supporting Actor for Richard Jenkins, Best Supporting Actress for Octavia Spencer, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design, Best Original Score, and Best Costume Design. Nice. See what happens when you make an artsy monster movie?! It’s Oscar gold!

The Academy also got it right with some very good nominations for “Get Out” and “Lady Bird” — both of which caused a little panic when they were snubbed at The Golden Globes. “Get Out” got nominated for Best Picture, Best Lead Actor for Daniel Kaluuya, and Jordan Peele received nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director — all the more incredible when you realize that “Get Out” is his directorial debut. “Lady Bird,” Greta Gurwig’s directorial feature-length debut received nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress for Saoirse Ronan, and Best Supporting Actress for Laurie Metcalf. Jordan Peele’s reaction to the nominations were beautifully documented on Twitter — and its very cool that a guy that definitive as a sketch comedian is now one of our most respected directors.

Other meaningful nominations include Rachel Morrison becoming the first woman nominated for Best Cinematographer, “Logan,” the X-Men film, being nominated for Best Screenplay — the first of its kind for a superhero film, and of course, Academy Award Nominee “The Boss Baby” for Best Animated Feature. Best of luck, “Coco!” I thought that Best Animated Oscar was yours, but here comes “The Boss Baby.” Full nominations are below.
