  • The internet — or at least the parts of it that love a good mystery — have been wondering what the situation was with an odd ad campaign going around showing Danny McBride playing the son of Crocodile Dundee in a fourth movie detailing the adventures of 80’s Australian culture clash comedy starring Paul Hogan. There were, however, a few red flags in the original trailer. For one, the studio — Rimfire Films — has never been heard of before. That, and it sounds like rim job, which we’re sure is not a coincidence. Watch the original trailer below.

  • So — even though the trailer is kind of fishy — it began conversations amongst those who thought it was real. For one — whether or not it’s wise to reboot a series as problematic as Crocodile Dundee, and whether this is all incredibly tacky (which it certainly is one way or another). It could be advertising for hospitals and it wouldn’t escape that. Well, Rimfire released a second trailer for the possibly fake Crocodile Dundee — this time with native Australian Chris Hemsworth greeting Danny McBride with the classic kind of comedy timing befitting Dundee.

  • The full title of the film is Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home, and if you’re excited to see McBride and Hemsworth getting into adventures in the wilds of that odd and beautiful continent, I AM SORRY. The entire thing is just a build up to a Super Bowl campaign for Australian tourism according to The Brisbane Times. A major hint was when the film’s director, Steve Rogers, turned out to be a career commercial director.

And thus ends the mystery of what the heck was up with that Danny McBride trailer. What was up with it? I don’t know. A whole lot of advertising apparently! I would have rather seen the movie, though.
