Ren and Stimpy Creator John Kricfalusi Accused of Sexual Misconduct Towards Underage Girls
John Kricfalusi, the creator of Nickelodeon’s 1993 television show, The Ren & Stimpy Show, has been accused of sexual misconduct towards teenage girls as young as 13 in an article published by Buzzfeed on March 29, 2018. The misconduct in question involved exploiting them, promising them a career in animation when they were very young teenagers and proceeding to move on them sexually. The two women prominently featured were Robyn Byrd and Katie Rice — the former of whom has dropped out of the animation industry due to the actions of John Kricfalusi.
The article chronicles a series of employees who saw John Kricfalusi live with then 16-year-old Robyn Byrd as his girlfriend who he flew out to LA with the promise of giving her a job at his company Spumco. When Robyn left him at 18, Kricfalusi immediately brought in another young woman into his orbit — Katie Rice — to whom he would make rape threats in the guise of jokes when she would deny his advances. Kricfalusi would take polaroids of the then teenage Robyn giving him oral sex and show the polaroids to friends at parties when the then 20-year-old was drunk
Katie Rice’s relationship came to an end with Kricfalusi after the rape threat and after she discovered child pornography on his computer. Rice and Byrd reported Kricfalusi to the police in 2017, but the police could not act on this due to the statue of limitations but thanked them for their help in building the case against him.
Katie Rice is an incredible cartoonist, and her work can be found here.
