Is Donald Glover Getting His Own Lando Calrissian Spin-Off?

It seemed almost unfair to the other stars, when during the Solo trailer that premiered during the Superbowl, all of the characters, all of the set pieces, the stars themselves where eclipsed when Donald Glover came up on screen as Lando Calrissian, looking like the definition of cool and confident that rivaled even Billy Dee Williams’ own portrayal. Then the screen cut to like — Chewbacca razzing a robot and whatnot, and it quickly became obvious what everyone was thinking — why was Han Solo getting a movie when we had such a perfect combination of character and actor waiting in the wings?

Well, wait no more, because Donald Glover may be getting his own spin off with a Star Wars Lando Calrissian movie of his own. A quote from Kathleen Kennedy, Star Wars producer, said: “We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian. Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca but Lando will be next.”

Of course, there may also be a level of misunderstanding to how soon a Lando movie may actually be coming, with the note about stories about Han and Chewie being in the wings, but come on. Han Solo is great and all, but you have an actual movie star on your hands here! You know how rare those are? Someone the audience will go see in anything? Han will still be there after we get three solid Lando movies and a fun movie where Lando meets Black Panther and folks, they do NOT get along… at first. *winky face*

For now, let’s just enjoy the only piece of pure Donald Glover/Lando entertainment we’ll have for a while — this SNL sketch about how few black people there are in the Marvel Universe.
