Chadwick Boseman has become a superhero icon for his performance of Black Panther; a character who has meant so much to fans all over the world. He represented Afrofuturism, exciting and glorious ideas, and it’s no surprise that Chadwick Boseman won the MTV Movie Award for Best Hero. However, when Boseman came to the stage, he called up someone who he calls a real hero, James Shaw Jr.

James Shaw Jr. was the man who heroically fought off a gunman at a Waffle House, being grazed with a bullet as he selflessly fought the man who ended up running from the building. Shaw Jr. saved countless lives, and it speaks to Chadwick Boseman’s personal sense of heroism that he put aside his moment to honor a real hero. T’Challah would be proud.

Speaking of Black Panther victories, Michael B. Jordan ended up winning for his role as Killmonger, joking that he thought Roseanne had it in the bag. Got her! Oh, that cool and classy Killmonger wit!

Boseman ended up further honoring James Shaw Jr. in a tweet moments after.

Congrats, James Shaw Jr. Even though the president never gave you the medal you so obviously deserved, Black Panther did give you an MTV Movie Award for Best Hero, which we’re going to argue, is worth so much more.

In addition to ;Best Hero, Boseman ended up winning Best Performance In a Movie for the same role, and Black Panther ended up winning Best Movie, which, I hope, is one of the rare times we’ll be able to use the MTV Movie Awards to predict the Academy. Come on! Andy Serkis for Most Off-Putting Buff Bod!
