E3: Nintendo Brings Back EVERYONE (And Also Ridley) for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. has quickly gone from a game celebrating Nintendo nostalgia to something fans feel as passionately and nostalgically about as they did about any of the games in Super Smash Bros. Melee way back in 2001. So, it sort of makes sense that for their next game, Super Smash Bros, Ultimate, revealed at E3 this morning, plays into that by combining every Super Smash Bros. of ages past. You kids wanted Snake from Metal Gear Solid back? Well, he’s back! You missed Pichu from Super Smash Bros. Melee, the character who was Pikachu, but worse? No? Well, he’s back too! And did someone out there say… Ice Climbers? Well, people actually wanted the Ice Climbers and they’re back as well.

The whole thing was revealed in a hypnotic 25 minute trailer if, and, if you’re anything like me, is a warm brain bath to anyone who has wasted countless hours of their precious beautiful life timing a Falcon Punch so perfectly that you can finally gain mastery over the most useful skill in human history: beating up characters from Yoshi’s Island. Watch the video below.

This new Smash Bros., aka the main reason a few of us buy new Nintendo systems at all, is going to be a remix of every game that came before it with a few new additions. Some are excited about this, and some are disappointed there won’t be more new stuff. Or will there? Dun dun dun! Sure, we knew we got the Splatoon kids in this one, but are you massive horrible nerds ready for some… Ridley? I know I’m ready for some Ridley.

Folks, we got Ridley, the villain from Metroid. In the past, Smash Bros. developers said that Ridley was too big in size to have put into the games, but here he is having murdered Mario in cold blood, so it looks like time makes fools of us all.

The game is set to be released on December 7, 2018, which means I have six more miserable smash-less months to do things like hiking and exercising and bettering myself. Sickening.
