James Bond Producers Want Idris Elba As New Bond

Hey internet... I have a surprise for you...

It has been a moment and a half for fans of Idris Elba who want to see the star portray James Bond. For a long time he has been the internet’s favorite to portray the cinematic super spy, to the point where Idris Elba, around the time of the Sony Hack, had to tell the fans to quiet down a little — they could ruin it by being too passionate. Now it looks like this dream is a little closer to becoming a reality. Daniel Craig is doing one more outing, then getting ready to hang up the cufflinks with his next movie, finally, maybe… wait! Extremely possibly clearing the way for Idris Elba. According to The Independent, the producers of the Bond Franchise, Barbara Broccolis, are leaning towards Elba —

Director Antoine Fuqua revealed the details of a conversation with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, in which she said “it is time” for a non-white actor to take on the iconic role. Fuqua discussed who might be next in the running with Broccoli, who’s certain the progressive move “will happen eventually”, with Idris Elba a reported frontrunner for the role.

Idris Elba would of course be the first black James Bond, which would undoubtedly get dumb fans to say dumb things, and I want to say pre-emptively: those fans are dumb and don’t like anything except one specific thing that they shouldn’t like. Now, this casting announcement isn’t concrete yet — especially considering that Elba himself some time ago said that he wouldn’t want the role, and would want to see it be given to a woman. Although time has passed now! We’ll see!

Either way, we’re glad. There’s a fan theory out there that James Bond isn’t a person, it’s a title given to one of England’s most trusted spies. This would explain why Bond’s been played by so many actors. Idris Elba as the latest in this long line is an exciting idea. And if you don’t buy it and still complain about the casting well… then, he’s a fake character and if he was real he would 100% hate you.
