TRAILER: New ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Trailer Shows Off More Miles Morales
Spider-Man and Marvel nerds — you're getting a treat today!
To say that Marvel Comics are experiencing a renaissance in both quality and public recognition would be an exhausting and obvious statement that anyone reading it would get rightfully quite mad at the writer for even expressing it. However, as Marvel flourished, it was a question of where the relatively less accepted Marvel producing studios would go, and the answer seems to be — wherever they want apparently!
The second trailer was released today for the animated ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. The movie — directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, and written by animation superstars Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Alex Hirsch — follows the adventures of alternate universe Spider-Men, with a focus on a character that fans have a particular investment and admiration for… Miles Morales.
Miles Morales was created by Brian Bendis and Sara Pichelli following Donald Glover’s failed, but very influential attempt to play Peter Parker in the then-upcoming, and ultimately derided, Amazing Spider-Man franchise, which ended up starring Andrew Garfield. As fans, often very racistly, argued that Peter Parker can only be white because of the source material, the people helping run the source material decided to tweak it a little bit and put in the biracial Miles Morales — an awkward human and guilt-stricken Spider-Man in the vein of the kinds of stories that always made the character stand out at his absolute best.
The movie seems to focus on Peter Parker, himself a more down on his luck Spider-Man than we’ve ever seen before, training Miles Morales to take over for him. Well, guess what folks? The surprises from the multi-verse keep coming as Gwen Stacy, aka Spider-Gwen, one of the breakout stars from the original Spider-Verse event from the comics, swings in herself. The movie stars Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, New Girl’s Jake Johnson as Peter Parker, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, Liev Schreiber as The Kingpin, and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as Aaron Davis (Miles’ uncle and greatest antagonist).
As for Donald Glover — he actually played Aaron Davis in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, even making a reference to his nephew, so who knows. Maybe some of that live action Miles Morales isn’t far behind. For now, we can all just get drunk on the unbelievable visuals of this motion picture.
