Just yesterday we reported on Travis Scott’s album cover for his new album Astroworld, which removed trans model Amanda Lepore. Since then Travis Scott has apologized for the oversight, and we are left to ask, after we’ve gathered our opinion of the singer, what’s the actual album like? The answer? Apparently insane. Travis Scott today released a video from his album, directed by Dave Meyer who you may know from, amongst other things, being the visual super genius who directed Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” video. The track? “Stop Trying To be God” featuring Stevie Wonder, Kid Cudi and James Blake. The visuals, which include crazed Christian imagery, talking sheep, a laser blasting God melting Travis Scott’s head and also Kylie Jenner, are all on display and well– why not check out the video below!

The thing is another beautiful mess of imagery that’s evocative amongst the dirty and mundane. We get Travis Scott as a literal black sheep of a flock before we pan out and find Travis Scott himself leading the flock. Wait– the black sheep leading the flock where he was once just a peon!? Now that’s symbolism!

The video continues to give us insane evocative imagery: a lot of it of Travis Scott getting burn by a great all knowing God in the sky who is no doubt burning him for trying to get to the greatness of God, as one is want to do. So what does it mean for Travis Scott to be similar to God? Well, let’s check out the lyrics, especially James Blake’s bridge:

Is it the complex of the saint
That’s keepin’ you so, so, so still?
Is it a coat of old paint
That’s peelin’ every day against our will?
Is it too long
Since the last open conversation you had? Oh, no
And did you see the void in the past?
And can you ever see it comin’ back?
Well, can you always be a step ahead of it for me?
Well, can you always be a step ahead of it for me?

Is humanity an old coat of paints!? Are we all beautiful spirits? I don’t know. Look, I’ll look into it and let you know, all right? Don’t hurry me!!!
